Bollito–Fritto | A guide to the 3D manifold

The map
Bollito in blue. Fritto in orange. Authorship adds depth; flexibility adds height. We map behaviour in context, not the whole person.

Dimension A
The blue half is Bollito: accepting or yielding. The orange half is Fritto: initiating or steering. Watch the point cross the neutral plane, while its other coordinates stay fixed.

Dimension R
R measures reflexive authorship. Moving deeper takes us from a scripted response to a considered choice. Look for reasons, alternatives, and revision when evidence changes.

Dimension F
F measures flexibility. Low means being stuck in one mode. High means accessing both modes and switching when justified. Look for purposeful adaptation.

The NPC regions
Low authorship forms the NPC-like layer. With low flexibility, passive NPC yields automatically; hyperactive NPC pushes automatically. Different stances; shared rigidity.

The deliberate regions
At high authorship, we find deliberate Bollito and deliberate Fritto. One chooses acceptance; the other chooses intervention. This line holds authorship and flexibility constant. Only stance changes.

Ridge and Pontos
The Grothendieck ridge spans both stances at high authorship and flexibility. G is its neutral anchor. Pontos occupies a central neighbourhood: reflective, flexible, and less committed to either stance.

Fair placement
To place someone fairly, define the context and opportunities first. Use the same rubric and independent ratings. Score demonstrated behaviour from zero to four, and leave missing evidence unknown.

Construct one point
Pushing averages three, yielding one: their difference divided by four gives A, point five. Authorship averages three: R is point seven five. Flexibility averages two: F is point five. This point lands in deliberate Fritto.

History / chosen restraint
Washington gives us a clear example of chosen restraint. In seventeen eighty-three, after winning the war, he voluntarily returned his military commission to Congress. In this reading, relinquishing control places the episode on the deliberate Bollito side.

History / purposeful intervention
Florence Nightingale illustrates purposeful intervention. She used statistical evidence to argue for changes in hospital care and continued campaigning for reform. Here the active stance sits alongside deliberate reasoning: high A and high R, in the deliberate Fritto region.

History / changing the mode
Shackleton shows why the ridge extends across both sides. When Endurance was lost, he gave up the Antarctic crossing and focused on rescue. Letting go of one goal enabled decisive action on another. The stance changes; deliberate adaptation remains high.

Read the whole map
Read three coordinates: stance, authorship, flexibility. When ratings disagree, show a range. If that range crosses a boundary, keep both possible labels. Update the placement as evidence arrives.
